Digg Traffic: What You Don’t Know!

Updated on: February 25, 2013

Digg, a top Social Bookmarking site is accounted for millions of visitors a day for many blogs and websites. A well written article that gets “dugg” by members of the Digg community, and lands on the first page of Digg, can bring you more traffic that you can ever imagine getting from a free traffic generation source. But many bloggers struggle with the fact that despite Digging each and every article they publish, they have yet to see any notable amount of traffic from Digg.

If you are one of those bloggers who are not getting any substantial amount of traffic from Digg, despite Digging all of their posts, read on to learn the secret to use Digg more effectively to bring more traffic to your blog.
The biggest mistake many bloggers make, is Digging their own material. It’s the most important yet most overlooked secret to getting more traffic out of Digg.

Digging your own content once or twice, here and there is OK, but to get a substantial amount of traffic from Digg, you need more than one or two Digg of your own. Not only Digging your posts all the time, doesn’t help you drive much traffic to your blog, it also paints a negative image of you that comes across to many as a spammer.

Let me ask you this – If I am selling a product and you want to buy it, but you aren’t sure of the quality of it, which one of the following will influence your decision more; me telling you about how great this product is, or another person who actually bought the product from me already and thinks it’s a great product?… exactly!

The same concept applies to Digg and using it to drive a massive amount of targeted traffic to your site. By Digging your own posts, you are not doing any good for your traffic. Yeah, you may get 1 or 2 curious people here and there who may click on your link to solve their curiosity, but i doubt it would trigger any interest beyond that.

The secret to getting quality targeted traffic from Digg is not to Digg your own content, but have others Digg it for you. Just as the old customers words in the example above would influence you more to buy my product than my own words, other people saying your content is worthy and a good read, will make more people want to visit your blog and read your article for themselves, than you shouting your post is the greatest in the world.

By having your posts dugged by other people, not only you drive more traffic to your site, but it also helps you establish yourself as an authoritative figure on the subject, in the online community. What will that do for you? It will brings you an even greater amount of traffic than having an article dugged for so many time.

Following our example above, a seller who is known in the community as an expert and trusted seller for the kind of product he is selling, gets way more buyers wanting to buy from him than a seller who beside himself only his mother and father count him as an expert and trusted person for such a product.

You know, where I come from(Iran-Persia) we have a saying that goes something like this ” moshk on ast ke khod beboyad, na on keh attar begoyad” which basically means “the gardner saying my flower smells great, doesn’t make the flower a great smelling flower, a great smelling flower has to smell good on its own” (translation is hard on old sayings like this, but i hope i was able to get the message across.

So, start writing quality and useful content to get more people to Digg your content. The more people Digg your content, the more visitors you may receive, as having an article dugged more than certain amount of times, will get your post to be on the front page of Digg, which will obviously bring  huge amounts of traffic to your site. And don’t forget, Digging your own posts is not the secret to gaining traffic from Digg, or any social bookmarking site for that matter. The secret for getting traffic from Digg is to have other people Digg your posts.
