How to Get Traffic to Your Website for Free (Using Article Marketing)

Updated on: March 22, 2013

Article marketing is one of the best ways of getting traffic to your website for free. However, to be able to pull in the traffic with your articles, you need to consider a few things when writing articles for your article marketing campaign. Here are 9 important factors to consider for writing articles that can drive targeted traffic to your blog:

1. Write on topics you know about
For an article to be effective in pulling in traffic, it needs to be useful, it has to be what we call quality content. And you can’t create quality content without knowing the subject, or having done enough research on it.

Readers can easily spot an article written by someone who doesn’t know much about the topic. No reader will be interested in reading more of what that person writes about.

2. Make it interesting
People respond much better to interesting articles. Of course, what’s interesting to me might not be to you. So, the best way to make sure you write interesting articles would be to write about subjects your target audience wants to know about.

3. Write specific and informative articles
People like to read content that can actually help them solve a problem or answer a question, and content that are right to the point. Provide your readers with easy to follow pointers.

4. Don’t give out all the information
Yes, your article supposed to be informative and help the reader solve a problem. But, if you give them all the information in your article, why would they want to click your link and visit your blog?…

Article marketing works by basically allowing you to give just enough information to the readers to make them want to click on your links for more.

You need to give them enough to make them interested, but not everything they need to know. You need to leave them hungry for more, in order to get them to click on your links and visit your site.

5. Make use of bulleted steps in your articles
Articles with bulleted steps tend to get much more attention as they are easy to read and understand. People love articles like “Top 10…” or “best ways to…” or a “How to…”.

6. Write keyword rich articles
Many people over do this step by stuffing their articles with keywords, which make the article unnatural and sometimes even unreadable.

Using your targeted keywords naturally throughout the article is the best way to ensure your article is keyword rich.

When searching for such information, people use these keywords to find what they are looking for. That is why keywords are one of the (if not the) most important part of your article, as without them it is highly unlikely that your target audience will be able to find your article.

7. Proofread your article
It might sound so simple and obvious, but it is surprising to know that many people refuse to take a few seconds to make sure their article is free of any grammatical and spelling errors.

8. Author’s resource box
This is a very important part of your article. It’s where you get to invite the readers to visit your blog for more. Using short attention grabbing sentences is a great way to get the most put of your author’s resource box.

Don’t make it too pushy or a sales pitch. The author’s resource box is meant to get the readers to click through to your blog.

9. Submit to worthy directories
Writing a good article is great, but if you don’t publish it anywhere, it won’t do you any good. There are hunderds of article directories out there that you can use for submitting articles. Some people prefer to publish their article to only a few best directories, others prefer to submit to as many directories as they can.

Either way, make sure you do submit your article to at least a few dofollow article directories. Backlinks created on dofollow article directories carry much more weight when it comes to effecting your search engine ranking.

Article marketing is a great free tool to achieve few things at the same time. It’s a great way to establish yourself as an authority in your niche. It also helps you build quality backlinks for your blog which are important for your search engine ranking. And last but not least, article marketing is a great way to get traffic to your website for free.
