There are tons of “101 weird ways to make money” articles and posts on the web. And some of them do list truly unique ways of earning cash. But to be honest, I wanted to publish a list of ideas that I consider to be slightly odd yet cool ways of making money.
Try Swagbucks, the famous rewards program that pays you for watching videos, taking surveys, shopping and more.
That is why I decided to write this post. After a bit of research and reading, I found the following methods to be the weirdest and most strangest ways people make money. Some of these methods may not fall into “odd ways of making money” category, but to me they are slightly strange ways of making money. Enjoy!
1. Greens Fowl Wrangler
Water fowl, and in particular the notorious goose, has become an unwelcome problem for golf course owners and operators alike. These winged pests can eat several pound of grass each day, leaving behind one-third of that weight in unpleasant smelling and possibly disease ridden droppings.
Multiply this effect by several hundred of these feathered fiends and you can see how the problems can stack up quickly.
Unfortunately, just outright killing these creatures is strictly forbidden and as such, companies that specialize in non-lethal removal of these creatures have become big business. Often, these companies are able to provide repellants to keep the birds away and even dogs trained to chase the birds off.
Should these measures fail to take care of the problem teams of “hazers” can be hired to make it clear to the birds on a consistent basis that the links are not for them. Rates vary based on the size of the property to be covered and the level of the infestation.
If you have to only sign up for one paid survey site to make money with, I recommend Ipsos-iSay. Ipsos is the most fun and well-paying panel. Give it a try to see how you like it. It is free anyway!
2. Collect Old Coins
Collecting old coins or more specifically old pennies is an interesting, if slow, way to save up valuable materials for reclamation and resale at a later date. Those pennies minted before 1982 are actually made up mostly of copper, where modern coins are now primarily composed of a zinc alloy.
Although, it is presently illegal to melt down these coins for their raw materials and impossible to get them out of the country in any appreciable quantities due to old and obscure federal laws, the day may be coming when these old rules no longer apply.
The U.S. Mint has been considering the notion of doing away with the penny altogether to free up the materials being used for more profitable ventures. If this happens, those that have collected these old pennies will have every right to melt them down and sell the copper for quite the profit.
3. Sell Your Voice
Many women, especially single mothers are turning to this option and becoming phone sex operators either as a profession or in their spare time. Though this seems like a scandalous profession to enter into it’s one of the more lucrative “work from home” opportunities available, especially for women.
This kind of work allows single mothers the flexibility to stay home and take care of their children while still earning a living. While most people like to pretend like professions of this nature don’t really exist, the truth of the matter is that this particular profession in particular has grown much larger in just a year and a half, with no signs of slowing down.
If you’re a single mother, or just like to get a man going, this may be an avenue to look into for some extra income.
4. Procure and Sell Antiquities
If you have a sharp eye for rare or valuable antiques and collectables and enjoy browsing through charity and thrift stores looking for a bargain, you could turn your passion into a career, or at least an extra source of income.
Once you’ve found a few potential deals, do some research online using a phone or computer and find out how much these items can be sold for. If you look to be able to make a decent profit on reselling one or more of them, why not pick it up and post it on eBay or a similar auction site? Who knows you could just end up with your own online business.
5. Virtual-Estate Agent
Interestingly enough, there are many opportunities to make money today through activities in an MMO, or Massively Multiplayer Online game environment. People worldwide love video games and many of those that play these games will pay real money for the things in the game.
For the right piece of virtual homestead you could make hundreds of dollars or more, allowing you to start earning cash from the lucrative gaming industry.
6. Craft Unique Accessories
Though there is an initial investment involved to purchase the basic tools necessary for this interesting income generating idea, most materials for such things cost far less than the items they’re eventually used to create.
Materials for jewelry and other accessories can be found almost anywhere, even around your own home, and as such it’s as simple as getting yourself the tools and starting to imagine and create.
Once you’ve gotten the hang of the crafting process you may wish to set up a small website to sell your wares, or try to sell them on eBay, Etsy.com, or another similarly purposed website.
7. Provide Pet Transportation
As people’s schedules continue to get more loaded down with tasks and appointments, pet owners can run out of time to get their beloved friends to appointments at the vet, groomers, or other pet oriented service industries.
This is where you come in with your pet transportation services. For an appropriate fee, you can provide a ride for these people’s furry friends to their appointments and back again. Often times people will combine this service with a pet setting and or walking business to earn a livable income.
If you have a large vehicle, the means to procure a couple couriers, and just love being around domesticated animals, this could be a great home business for you.
8. Sell Your Blood and Plasma
Whether you knew it or not, you have money available to you right now coursing through your veins in the form of blood and blood plasma.
Though many just give away these precious resources at blood drives or similar events, there are some hospitals, clinics, and donation centers that will pay you for your donation. Legally you must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 lbs. and be healthy at the time of the donation.
You won’t get rich by donating blood, but you can certainly earn some easy cash. Though it tends to vary based upon how often you donate and where, each visit could pay you around $35.
